A note from Joe Howell

Here we are with only three remaining events for the Monday Night Time Trial Season #36……. that makes over 36 consecutive years that Don Flanigan has been putting on this great event. As you know, it is free to all. Don personally handles the “registration” and the timing/results. He also manages the age group standings and year-end awards, pays for the medals and makes sure the event happens on the second Monday night of the month from March through October each year. Several years ago, Jon Martin (local web designer and fellow MNTT participant) created and continues to maintain the event’s website and social media presence. When Don is out of town, Jim Marshall and Lee Carter take on the starter/recorder duties.

Many say “thanks” to Don/Jon for their efforts, yet too many of us take the event for granted. To be clear, MNTT is free to any and all comers, as it has been for the last 36 years, only because Don and Jon contribute their considerable time and efforts to make it happen.

As a modest thank you, a few years ago we started a tradition of collecting voluntary contributions from participants….then we presented, as our collective “thank you”, dinner gift certificates to Don and Jon. They each seemed thrilled with the recognition and show of appreciation by most of us who participate.

Here is the pitch-please consider contributing to our purchase of gift certificates for the two of them. The amount is up to you- many contribute $30-$40, others lots more, others less. Whether to contribute at all, and if so how much, is totally up to you. If you do contribute, your name will be listed on the thank you cards for Don and for Jon to be presented at the last Monday Night TT on Monday, October 13 th . (Just to be clear, 100% of all contributions will go toward their gift certificates.)

Many have asked for a Venmo option. Feel free to send your contribution via Venmo to: @Joe- Howell-19 and be sure your name is included. For those who prefer to pay by check, please mail your contribution check to me (payable to Joe Howell at 2525 Anacapa Santa Barbara, CA 93105). If you are really old school and want to hand me cash at the August TT, fine but just be sure your name is with your contribution. To the extent possible, we would like this to be a surprise for Don and Jon. At the last MNTT on October 13th, we will present Don and Jon with thank you cards and individual gift certificates. Please contribute now and thanks for your part in honoring Don and Jon for their efforts in making this great event possible over the years.

And thank you to those who have already made their contributions.
